Do That Thing You Do to Me Again

A song with a country lean it never tried to hide — it fell out of the guitar and onto paper in about twenty minutes, and it’s been tripping along ever since, twangy Telecaster solo and all.

Take Your Time

This album has been a drawn-out project, to say the very least. It’s called Take Your Time for good reason.

The songs are a selection of those written over my musical lifespan — chosen and gathered together to reflect different times and memories. I write pretty much everything on acoustic guitar and arrangements get built from there on up. Some of these tracks are completely naked, some sit in a traditional band setting, and some carry full orchestral arrangements.

The tracks were recorded in France with a selection of phenomenal musicians and mixed in Austria with my musical mate Mike Blake. I hope you enjoy the snapshots of feelings I have put together — and that, in time, they may become part of the soundtrack to your life.

On stage

Live

Records are lovely, but these songs earn their keep in the room. Most weeks you’ll find me playing somewhere around Zell am See — I’ve been part of the furniture in the local bars long enough to have my own dent in the stage.

The Tip Jar

In the bars it lives on top of the piano — collecting coins, bottle caps and the occasional guitar pick. This is the online version. Bigger capacity, smells considerably better. If one of these songs ever walked you home, you know what to do.

The story so far

Behind the Music

Jason Howell portrait

I’ve been fortunate enough, for the majority of my life, to make a living out of something I love doing — making music.

This life of song has allowed me to travel the world, meet some wonderful people and play with some astounding musicians. When I set out on my very own troubadour’s adventure I had no idea where it would take me. So far, it’s been a hoot…

I never wanted to be a “poor, starving musician” — and thankfully, starve I haven’t. Work has always found me. I have played in different bands, in different line-ups, on different instruments, performing both original and ‘borrowed’ material.

I’ve written with some legendary performers and recorded with some of my childhood heroes. I’m so thankful for all the folk whose paths have crossed, or run parallel to mine, however briefly, over the years.

Thanks for listening — see you somewhere soon…
